This visitor centre situated on the Isle of Bute in Scotland serves Mount Stuart, the ancestral home of the Marquis of Bute. Commissioned after an invited competition, the practice’s strategy was to follow the line of an existing stone dyke to enable the building to sit within the landscape whilst enabling easy access to both levels.
The brief called for a ticket office, shop, gallery, audio visual facilities and a restaurant which has subsequently been pronounced "the best-looking in Scotland". The scheme was awarded a GIA Award in 2001 and RIBA Award in 2002.
